"Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time; effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end."

Hey, do you know the Reeses? Or just from this session? He was in my bishopric when I was a teenager. I babysat for them a few times as well. Great family!

"One of my favorite things to do is look at Jordan. When I'm sitting in the passenger seat and he's driving. When we're attempting yoga in our living room. When he's playing with our cat or helping me with the dishes after dinner. It's not because he's so handsome that I love looking at him (he is!), but because it amazes me that I can actually love someone as much as I love him. I look at him and every time it occurs to me, all over again, that this man that I love more than anyone is mine forever. And he will love me forever! He is my best friend and all of the normal, mundane, things we do together are so much better because he's next to me. Not everything we do together is exciting, but they are always little reminders of what we promised each other the day we were married because when I look at him, I am filled with joy and an inexpressible love."

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.
Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.

Last week I got an email from Kate, who was hoping to book a session with me and explained that they were just visiting from the East Coast and would only be in California for the week. I think I can honestly say that last week was my busiest week of the year- 1 wedding, 3 portrait sessions, a baby (and HUSBAND!) with croup, a campout with the young ladies I work with in church, various appointments, and a house and family to keep up with. Despite all of that, something told me that I should take this session and make it work. I'm so so glad I did! A few of the images we captured that night are among my very favorite ever, not to mention, I truly would've missed out on meeting some wonderful people.

We met at Balboa, we played, we walked, we dug holes in the sand. It was a most beautiful evening.

*A special thanks to Stacie (see previous post) for coming along and taking care of my sick baby while I shot. I appreciate it more than you know! xo
