Taking a Break ~ Rachel Clare

Hello internet, how have your Holidays been?
I’ve been enjoying a lovely, lazy quiet few weeks with my family. We’ve had our tree up since (*cough*) November 6th. And truth: I’ve loved every minute of it. We’ve spent our time listening to Christmas music, watching old holiday movies, making (and consuming) goodies, and enjoying the spirit of the season.

There’s also been plenty of cuddling with this sweet little pea:

Enjoy the rest of December, and we’ll see you in the New Year!

Introducing…

Well, Aris, Crystalyn, Beth and Tara were right on the date. Kim, Holly, Katie, Shannon, Allyson and Tara K were right on the sex. Elizabeth was the only one who came close to the right weight (but she knows I have little babies…).

Little Maura Clare made her grand entrance into the world last Tuesday, Nov. 24th after 20 (TWENTY?!) hours of labor. Right- didn’t see that one coming! She weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and is sweet as can be. We’re so happy that she’s here, healthy and happy. And, *knock on wood*, she’s an extremely easy baby so far. We love her to pieces and are grateful that we get to spend the holidays together as a family with her.

I had a hot date on Friday with this little man. What a keeper! He was as good as newborns come- sleepy and curly when I wanted him to be, awake and happy and curious towards the end of the session. (I’m heading back there later this week for some family shots- will post a few of those next week.) His folks tried to convince me that he was 9 1/2 lbs at birth. I didn’t believe them. (And for what it’s worth, they don’t believe it either.)
Tim and Sarah, thank you for allowing me an afternoon with your new little love.

(He informed me, quietly, that he really wants to be a pilot when he grows up. I told him I thought it was a good idea, and only later did I learn that his grandfather has a small plane. Perfect!)

And, because I think it’s SO STINKING CUTE, I had to post this picture again…

Remember this lovely couple? They finally *whew* had their baby this past Sunday. Congrats you guys! I’ll be photographing their babe tomorrow, so stay tuned for a sneak peek coming soon!

And, look what I found as I was editing this session last night- SO.DANG.SWEET.

You think I’m kidding. I’m not. There are so many images from this mini session that I love that I could put together a gallery for two full sessions! What a beautiful family- all of them. And, I was happy that the grandparents happened to be there (even if they weren’t expecting to be in any pictures)! This is the greatest job- it allows me to be home with my children, which is the most important thing to me, it allows me a fantastic creative outlet and lets me be my own person on a regular basis, and I meet wonderful people and make lasting friendships! The T. family are becoming friends like that. And I hope to be in contact with them for years to come.

Tagged (and a newborn)

August 3, 2008 | Filed Under Babies, Just Because | 4 Comments

I’ve been tagged by my friend and fellow photog, Maria. So, here are 6 quirky things about me, followed by a couple of newborn pics (isn’t she a beauty??).

1. When I was 3 years old, a horse bit off the tip of my left index finger. I’d just started violin lessons. No, they didn’t sew it back on (yeah- they shot the horse, dug out the tip of my finger and re-attached it…. don’t think so), I just have a stubbier finger on that hand… I still play the violin, and my cute little stubby works just fine!

2. I hate soggy cereal. But I love cereal. So this is how I eat it: Pour milk (skim) into bowl. Add 2-3 pieces of cereal at a time. Enjoy. (One of my best friends gave me a bowl in college and the bottom was sloped! How ingenious is this?? Then, I could pour the milk into the deep end, pile the cereal onto the end sticking out of the milk, and only add one bite at a time!)

3. I have a horrible emotional habit where I form attachments to inanimate objects, and believe they have feelings. No, I’m not crazy, per say, just… weird. I hate moving because I know I’ll miss that house like crazy, and believe the house will miss us. I will never sell my ‘97 Jeep Cherokee because she has been faithful to me for the past 11 years and I love her. And while she has 160,000 miles on her and isn’t actually worth very much, I got her new and I’ve been her sole provider. And, she loves me back. :)

4. I love LOVE love, more than anything, having my feet tickled. LOVE. When JT sits down to watch a movie with me and says, “Okay, give ‘em to me” and proceeds to tickle my feet for 2 hours, I swear, I could not be happier. Pure endorphins, I tell you. Puts me into a comatose state in no time flat.

5. I love how my children smell. Okay, yeah, there are exceptions, but generally, I love their smells and often put my nose right in their necks while I’m holding them and just inhale. It is sweet and pleasant and… just them. Pure joy!

6. I played on a women’s rugby team in college. It was fun, though it could be fairly painful. We attended a tournament in Las Vegas once where we played against a team of 200+ lb. women. We lost.

And she didn’t make a peep! Is she the most darling thing or what?? This is the new baby (born on the 4th of July) of a neighbor of mine. I tell you- I’d kill LOVE to have that skin. She is SUCH a pretty baby. Sarah, thanks for coming over. She’s so beautiful!

My cousin and his wife were in town this weekend and we got a couple of fantastic shots of their 6 month old. Note: little C. weighs 1/5 of his mother’s body weight.

And someday, he’s gonna HATE ME.

My cousin and his sweet wife were in town on Sunday evening with their new little one. We did a quick 10 minute session - no props, no planning. For the time and effort spent, I think we got some great images!
